Belief Systems Review Scrapbook: Home

Scrapbooks will be created that explains and highlights one specific belief system chosen from: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Daoism. Important people, practices and vocabulary will be covered.

Task

You will create a scrapbook that explains and highlights one belief system of the world. All important people, practices and vocabulary should be covered. Choose from: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Daoism.

For each belief system, you should include the following:

1. Origins – When and where was this religion founded? Include a map.

2. Founder/Leaders – Who are they? How are they associated with the religion? Include images if

appropriate.

3. God(s) – Who or what do they worship? Identify subjects by name and use images if possible or

appropriate.

4. Key Beliefs and Teachings – What are the foundational beliefs that the faith is based on? How do these

teachings or ideas influence daily life of followers of this religion?

5. Style of Worship – Explain how a person of this religion worships and the important elements of their

worship. Where do they worship? Is there a holy city?

6. Sacred Text – What are the sacred texts?

7. Symbols – What are the symbols of this faith? Include pictures.

8. Something New – Research something we did not learn about in our class notes. This can be a holiday,

different practice, historical event, important god/person, etc. You must explain it too!

Expectations:

I am expecting that your scrapbook will be a CREATIVE and PROFESSIONAL representation of the belief systems we have studied. To that end, follow the guidelines below:

• The scrapbook should be colorful and creative. You may make an old school scrapbook or use the computer, but each page in your scrapbook should indicate that you have taken this project seriously. This is not a paper or a list, it’s a scrapbook. Make it look like one.

• Should have at least 4 pages.

• All pages need illustrations and/or pictures.

Text should be typed or written neatly in marker. No pen or pencil!

• All text and descriptions should be in YOUR OWN WORDS. Copying and pasting is a form of plagiarism and is not allowed. Students who plagiarize their work will receive a zero for their project.

Proofread your work! Spelling and grammar errors will be deducted from your grade on this project.
